Spring has sprung but may spring away too fast!

As I sit here listening to the birds call back and forth I am reminded of how we heard so little birdsong while living in our small town in the southern Philippines. Most of the birds were simple sparrows and pigeons. All the other birds were caught by wild animals or people as food. I love listening to the birds here; and watching them. We have some magnificent Magpies! Both the typical black and white kind and beautiful blue ones too!

The Azure-winged Magpie is friendly, huge, chatty, sometimes quite noisy, beautiful and most only lives in the green area of the map below.pie.bleue

But more mysterious still is the elusive SheepGoat that has been wandering the countryside this year.half-sheep

I’ll write more soon.

  1. Wow… beautiful bird! Did you take the photo or “borrow” it from somewhere? A bit on the cool and gray side here this morning in MSP, but we’re hopeful that our spring weather will return soon (probably afer Easter). HUGS to all!

    • Yes, Deb, I borrowed that picture. It’s been raining here so I didn’t run out to snap a pic. We have both blacks and Blues here on campus. So fun! Mark just thinks they’re noisy.

  2. DEAR MARK & KATHI, THAT’S A BEAUTIFUL MAGPIE. WE’VE NEVER SEEN A MAGPIE. BUT YOUR MAP WOULD EXPLAIN WHY. BY THE WAY IF YOU EVER SEE A SHEEPGOAT PLEASE TAKE A PICTURE OR WE WILL START TO QUESTION YOUR SANITY. LOVE YOU, DON & MARJORIE

    • Ha ha! I hear the sheepgoat roams the hills along the bank of the mighty Yangtse River. Since that river is so polluted, I don’t spend a lot of time there, so I may never see one. 😦
