The Core of Things

Lately there have been a slew of posters and banners that have popped up all over the city. They are are on every available wall and public area. Every school, restaurant and store have them displayed. They are the twelve core values that the people here are to know.

Many of the posters illustrate the value so that there is a practical example everyone can relate to. I find the pictures inspiring actually. They show things like visiting each other in the hospital (civility), being honest in the market (integrity), and working together happily (dedication to one’s worth). School children need to memorize each of these core values in case they are quizzed by their teachers, community leaders or local police.

I wonder what would happen in the States if school children were quizzed on the words of the Pledge of Allegiance, or the national anthem? Hmmm.

  1. Kind of like us teaching the YMCA’s core values of caring, honesty, respect, and responsibility. Good post!

  2. Thanks, Kathi. Good point. How about the Ten Commandments too! I wonder how many church members can say all ten!
Good to hear from you. Karen and Dan

  3. Most young people in America today would not be able to answer either of your questions, but I bet they could name all the Kardashians. Kind of sad.

  4. The Chinese call this socialism. That title wouldn’t go over in this country, but the values are true and to be honored. Nice!

  5. I can only wish that the youth in the US could answer your questions, but most likely not. Some very good values
